Comprehension
Answer the following questions.
a. What does a cV mean and why is it important in one's career?
'Course of life' is the direct translation of the Latin word "curriculum vitae." In the real world, it's a record of your professional and personal accomplishments and information. It's important in one’s career since it determines the approval when applying for employment, promotions, research funding etc.
b. Does the same CV work for all job opportunities? Why or why not?
Although the same CV may be used for different jobs, it is preferable to make minor adjustments to the CV based on the job description and language used in the job ad in order to showcase your most relevant skills and credentials.
c. What are the different areas where CV can help you?
In order to get a job, promotion, or research funding, a well-written CV is necessary and can be helpful. Any time when an outside professional body wants to authenticate your faculty or worth and research activities, it works as the outline. In other words, whenever someone needs to appraise your individual professional competence or the collective competence of you and your colleagues, CV can help you.
d. What do you mean by 'staying CV' and 'leaving CV'? Which one would you develop for yourself as a freshman?
A ‘staying CV' includes a lot of work on committees and administration, as well as experiences and a solid academic record. A ‘ leaving CV’ will showcase your research accomplishments while also demonstrating your overall competence and willingness to perform the full range of academic obligations. As a freshman, I would create a ‘leaving CV’ for myself.
e. How can you draft a good CV?
I can draft a good CV with all organized and necessary data, well written in a good format, adhering to the basic frame of CV. I can also seek CV writing ideas from experienced individuals to further enhance the quality of CV.
f. What is the difference between academic CV and non-academic CV?
Academic CVs tend to be lengthier than those of non-academics, and they get longer as a person's career progresses. When non-academics apply for middle management roles, they are often encouraged to make mainly unverifiable statements about their traits and talents rather than to cite verifiable accomplishments. Thus, an academic CV differs significantly from a non-academic one.
Critical thinking
a. CV may not represent a person’s skills and abilities accurately because one’s confidence cannot be rendered in a paper. What do you think employers should do to find the best people for the job?
A CV may not fully reflect a person's expertise and ability since confidence cannot be shown in writing. So, the selection process should be broken down into some stages, rather than being based just on a piece of paper, in my opinion.
First, Select the most knowledgeable candidates from the available list. The best approach to learn about someone's personality is to speak with them. Smart and communicative skills are essential for them to work well with you. Conversation is the only way to find out for sure where they went to college. Take as much time as you need to be certain. Either two or 10 interviews are required.
Decide whether or not they are capable of working alone and taking ownership of a project. They must be present at all times, both physically and mentally. They must be able to establish and maintain a commitment. Again, the best way to learn this is via discussion and, of course, references.
Then they must demonstrate that they have the necessary training, background, and credentials. Last but not least, maintaining one's composure in social situations and staying out of trouble is also crucial. SO, also consider that.
These are the things the employers should do to find the best people for the job rather than focusing on CV only.
b. If the employers provide job opportunities by assessing one’s CV, how can fresh graduates compete with the experienced competitors?
Getting ahead of the competition for your ideal job means standing out from the crowd and making a positive first impression on prospective employers by showing your talents and skills.
There are certain jobs that need you to have an advanced degree in a specific field, but many times an employer is looking for more than simply a stellar academic record. Personality and the correct mix of interpersonal and leadership abilities are what they are looking for in prospects. When it comes to putting together an effective resume, many recent college grads are clueless. As a result, most people have resumes that follow a similar pattern since they all utilize the same template. If you want yours to stand out, you'll need to break the mold and think outside the square. As a creative candidate, you may want to go with something a little out of the ordinary in order to make your application stand out from the others. A new grad may compete with their peers if he or she does this.
