Reading I: Wisdom of Little Girls

Reading - I : Wisdom of Little Girls Notes

  • a) What were the girls wearing? How were the girls dressed? Answer – Girls came in brand new frocks. Malasha was in a blue dress, and Akoulya had on a yellow print doll's frock. Both had red scarves on their heads.
  • b. From which place the girls started playing? Answer: A puddle of dirty water created between two homesteads, and the girls started to play in it.
  • d. What was a large number of people doing in the street? Q. Why did the crowd gather in the street? A. The mothers of two girls began to quarrel there because of one frock got splashed during the incident.
  • e. What did Akoulya's grandmother do to pacify the people? A: Akoulya's grandmother intervened between them trying to make the crowd calm down, talking to the people and begging them not to fight, saying that now is the time for celebrating and not quarreling.
  • f) What makes the girls wiser than men? So, the answer is: The women are called wiser than men because when both the elders were quarrelling and fighting amongst themselves, they forgot their rivalry and worked upon to create a way through which the water could flow and at last played in peace.
  • g. The moral of the story What do you learn from it? This story teaches us that the solution to disputes is hidden in the heart and soul of our children, with their niceness and simplicity. Seeing the girls be so naive by forgetting what they were arguing about, to then work together and happily play — is what halted the quarrel between the adults, further proving that we can all take a lot of wisdom from child-like innocence when it comes to conflict.

Unit 11 : Reading - II 

World Record Notes

  • a. Who is Mabel Phillips? Answer: Mabel Phillips is a woman attempting to set a world record on television.
  • b. What is she trying to do? Q: Mabel Phillips is using a brush to help her try for the world record.
  • c. How do they keep the soup hot? Q: How do you maintain ticket soup heat? A: Gravity bucket filling more hot boiling soup into the bucket to top off.
  • d. Distance Albert was off the record? Albert was one minute from the world record. The record lasted seven hours and three minutes and he stood in hot soup for seven hours and two minutes.
  • e. How did the gentleman end up without his trousers? Question: What happened to the man pants? Answer: The man lost his trousers when he took them off for a bath, but they disappeared after his bath.
  • f. What do you think was Mabel motivation to push Albert? Q: Why Mabel pushed Albert?A: Because it was a comedy show. Or they were fooling around in the event
  • E. How about if someone interrupts you when you are on the brink of winning a point? Do you think it is ethical? One should not just interrupt a person close to winning his point or argument because that would be damaging in its own right both politically, and ethically. Not only does it lack respect, but it is the violation of fairness and perhaps the most annoying thing for a person hearing their conversation interrupt.
